THE REVIEW:

In Angel X, Kaylani Lei stars in the title role of Angel, a girl with a hidden destiny. After the slaying of her boyfriend by gang members in a dark alley, Angel is saved and taken under the wing of Fujiko (Asia Carrera). After taking Angel to safety, Fujiko reveals to her the secrets of her past...

It turns out that Angel is the offspring of a union of the Goddess of Light (Olivia Del Rio) and Gobo Daigon, a demon-in-disguise played by a handsome Nick Manning. In a flashback scene (complete with a hazy camera filter), all the sexy detail of their coupling is seen by the viewer, in one of the best scenes of the film. When all the hot sex is over, Gobo reveals his true demon nature and Manning appears (and will appear for the rest of the film) with full prosthetic makeup on his face. After this, Angel begins her "training" which consists of lot of slow-motion pseudo-martial arts with some nice firework special effects thrown in. Unfortunately, this lasts just a bit too long, and I found myself hitting the fast-forward button. The saving grace is that the it leads to the only girl-girl scene in the movie, between Angel and Fujiko.

Cutting to Gobo's lair, there is a full-on orgy scene (those demon studs love a good orgy) featuring Manning, Lee Stone and John West as a couple of guards, and Brittney Skye, Lea De Mae and Lisa Parks as Gobo's harem. The identical blonde-ness and makeup of the girls along with Manning's demon makeup make for a surreal scene that may be hot to some, but might not be for everyone.

The story come to an end with a confrontation between Angel and Gobo. Who lives? Who dies? Who cares, it doesn't even last five minutes. After all the build up, it leaves a bit of disappointment. However, one final sex scene happens in a dream-like sequence between Kaylani and Dale DaBone in a particularly beautiful smoke-filled japanese garden set.

Overall, Angel X is a high-quality production featuring great costuming, great sets, some well done special effects and great sex. It should appeal to fans of japanese anime and period pieces (even though it's meant to take place in the modern day).
